Very rare antique Christofle shell shaped butter dish with glass inlay. Can be used variously for caviar, scallops, as a fish bone dish, etc..
The silver plated shell dish is marked on the underside with the Christofle mark that was used from 1844 to 1862 and with production numbers that differ per dish. This early Christofle mark, the CC oval mark, consists of an oval containing four stars, the two capital letters C (Charles Christofle) on either side of a scale, below is a bee with two palm branches below. The inner container is made of pressed glass, possibly Vallérysthal.
Dimensions silver-plated bowl: 13.5 cm x 11.5 cm and a 2 cm high rim.
Condition: in beautiful used condition with signs of wear consistent with age and use.
